You are responsible for providing specialist nursing care

At UKER, you have the opportunity to work in areas requiring highly specialized nursing care. The areas of work vary greatly. You can choose, for example, to work on our training ward, or to learn about all the different aspects of dialysis therapy on our dialysis ward where we treat patients all year round, both as inpatients and as outpatients. In our endoscopy department in the Center for Internal Medicine you are part of an interprofessional team involved in diagnosis and interventions. The recovery room in our Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has six beds offering continuous cardiovascular monitoring without ventilation, available for monitoring wounds after breast operations, extensive gynecological surgery, or a caesarian section. Or you may decide to work on our BMT ward. On this isolation ward with twelve beds we treat and care for patients before, during and after a bone marrow transplant or in severe cases of oncological diseases. Alternatively, you can take responsibility in a small area of our Department of Nuclear Medicine, where patients receive isotope treatment. Our patient transportation service arranges transport for patients within UKER and is an area where nursing assistants can choose to work. In our Department of Radiation Oncology, you care for patients who have received brachytherapy. Or you may decide to work in our stroke unit which is responsible for the complex treatment and care of patients with acute cerebral ischemia. This requires continuous cardiovascular monitoring and treatment from a multiprofessional team, with the various options including lysis therapy, heparin and neurological nursing concepts. As an operator, you are involved in blood donation services and in producing medicines based on blood products for patients at Universitätsklinikum Erlangen who rely on blood products for their recovery.

Whether straight after completing your exams or with several years of work experience under your belt: you’re always very welcome here! In addition to subject expertise, we expect our staff to have empathy, understanding and good communication skills. We have a standard onboarding concept in our wards during which we prepare you for your future tasks and introduce you to them step by step over a fixed time period. During the first few weeks, a mentor will show you the ropes and introduce you to our organization and how we work, giving you the confidence you need.

At UKER we place considerable emphasis on your qualifications and offer a professional development program with a wide range of courses for professional and personal development at our Academy for Health Care and Nursing Professions. Or you might find a new field of work at one of the many other areas within Uniklinikum Erlangen.

Taking on responsability

You can also choose to specialize in areas such as occupational safety, hygiene, ethics, the Medical Devices Act, prophylactic measures against bedsores, or in pain and wound management. We are always pleased if you gain further qualifications to become a nursing instructor and pass on your newly acquired knowledge to others. Or if you get involved in our subject-related working groups in which we explore ways of making our processes sustainable and fit for the future. If you would like to assume a more managerial role, you can look to become a shift coordinator, a ward manager or their deputy.

In addition to your tariff-based pay, we offer a dynamic university allowance of 143.92 euros*. Depending on your qualifications and the profile of the tasks you are responsible for, you may also be eligible for further allowances.
